When X-rays and ultrasound examinations were digitized it ended the practice of reviewing images on a simple light box. Medical images are now stored, managed and viewed on a picture archiving and communication system (PACS). Unfortunately, clinicians wanting to review images have to wait until a dedicated station becomes available.
eUnity™ technology, created by Waterloo-based Client Outlook Inc. makes images available anywhere there is Internet access, a Flash-enabled browser and a calibrated monitor. The system can even be used on tablet devices. Patient privacy is maintained, since no software is installed on the viewing device, and all data is erased when the application is closed.
OCE’s Centre for Commercialization of Research (CCR) helped drive Client Outlook’s progress by providing a $200,000 investment, participating in and catalyzing an equity funding round of more than $700,000, supporting product development and facilitating introductions to accelerate the business.
eUnity™ was licensed by Health Canada in September 2010 and received U.S. approval in May 2011, paving the way for U.S. marketing and export opportunities.
“OCE’s Centre for Commercialization of Research’s (CCR) investment in our company aided us in hiring the necessary talent to complete development and commercialization of eUnity™. Their initial capital further solidified the company’s presence in the market and helped spur additional financial raises. It was not just the capital aspect of CCR that we benefited from, but as well the network of strategic connections, and their accessible mentoring. These along with the financial investment have proven invaluable to our growth and continued success.”
