If you’re like 80 per cent of internet users, when you review search engine results you rarely look beyond the top page of listings. For marketers trying to drive the business to their companies’ sites, it’s therefore essential to appear right at the top of those listings. That’s called search engine optimization (SEO).

Barrie-based gShift Labs helps its clients maximize SEO opportunities by optimizing the client’s entire web presence. How? gShift’s software looks beyond SEO, to consider the website and contents, as well as blogs and social media. gShift then provides recommendations the client can implement to ensure it improves its organic search ranking.

OCE invested $500,000 in gShift in August 2010 through its Investment Accelerator Fund, operated in cooperation with MaRS. OCE’s Centre for Commercialization of Research (CCR) played an ongoing role, with business connections and advice. The company has since attracted a further $1.1 million in follow-on investment and was recently named a 2011 Canadian Technology Accelerator Winner by the Canadian Innovation Exchange.
