A Cybersecurity R&D Partnering Forum held in Ottawa on April 6 brought together 112 researchers and representatives of industry from Ontario and Quebec to explore collaborations leading to commercialization of technologies, products and services in the area of cybersecurity.

The event launched the $3-million Cybersecurity R&D Challenge, an inter-provincial initiative to support joint industry-academic partnerships in the two provinces that address cybersecurity technology challenges leading to economic benefit for both provinces. The program is being offered in partnership with PROMPT, a non-profit Quebec-based organization that helps create R&D partnerships between industry and public research institutions in the information and communications technology market, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).

The Challenge is being offered through OCE’s Voucher for Industry Association R&D Challenge Program, and funded by the Government of Ontario.

Projects stemming from this initiative will support Canada's cybersecurity strategy, which seeks to secure government systems, to protect citizens, companies and key infrastructure underlying our economy.

“We are reminded continuously through news headlines of the importance of cybersecurity, and the serious implications of not being equipped with the most advanced technology and effective strategy for protecting our government systems, our companies and our citizens,” says OCE President Dr. Tom Corr. “The imperative of investing in the innovation of new technologies, products and services cannot be overstated.

This initiative is part of OCE’s ongoing work in the cybersecurity area that includes a partnership with Canada’s Smart Cyber Security Network (SERENE-RISC).
