2nd Smart Computing R&D Challenge Partnering Forum

Smart Computing Partnering Forum attracts strong interest

More than 200 participants representing the smart computing, big data, and cyber-security  sectors attended OCE’s recent Smart Computing R&D Challenge Partnership Forum.

Hosted by Ontario Centres of Excellence at the Toronto Region Board of Trade on Jan. 20, the event was held in partnership with SOSCIP and NSERC and powered by IBM Canada.

“The event was a resounding success and speaks to the growing interest in big data analytics amongst Ontario companies and researchers,” says OCE President and CEO Tom Corr.

The aim of the program is to continue to advance the development and commercialization of leading-edge technologies and applications related to high performance computing and big data.

“We are hopeful that today’s session will result in  some great opportunities for developing the creative collaborations that will lead to innovative products that can capture the attention of global markets and build an increasingly competitive economy for Ontario,” Dr. Corr says.

OCE is especially grateful to presenters Vaughn Betz, Associate Professor, University of Toronto; Peter Suma, Co-CEO, Applied Brain Research; Alex Voznyy, Principal Scientist of the Sargent Group (U of T); Shyam Ramchandani, COO and Co-Founder of Analytics for Life; and Elizabeth Caley, COO of Meta.

OCE is offering the industry-academic collaboration as part of its Collaboration Voucher program, which is funded by the Government of Ontario. The Challenge is providing $7.5 million over two years.  As a result of the first round, launched in June, seven projects across a broad spectrum of areas are already underway.

For more information about eligibility and application steps for the second round of the R&D Challenge , please see OCE’s website.
