Tom Corr to Remain on OCE Board

TORONTO, June 18, 2019 – After nearly a decade at the helm of Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), President and CEO Dr. Tom Corr will be stepping down at the end of June but will remain on OCE’s board of directors. The announcement was made today by Michael Nobrega, Chair of OCE’s Board of Directors.

Dr. Corr is regarded as one of Canada’s foremost experts in bringing research to commercial success. During his time at OCE he refocused the organization to stimulate business-led innovation and accelerate commercialization of leading-edge technologies.

“We were able to implement an industry-driven approach to innovation and commercialization which led to substantial job creation and other very positive economic development outcomes,” Dr. Corr said.

In making the announcement, OCE Board Chair Michael Nobrega said Dr. Corr’s accomplishments are too numerous to list but he highlighted OCE’s recent partnerships with the province on their emerging technology initiatives including AVIN and ENCQOR 5G.

Dr. Corr said he is pleased to continue his work with OCE as a board member and he acknowledged the entire OCE team as well as government partners, partners in the universities, colleges and research hospitals as well as those in industry and innovation. He noted this is the perfect time for OCE to undertake a transition to new leadership given the bench strength of the organization saying the change should be seamless.

Dr. Claudia Krywiak, the current Vice President of Corporate Development, Planning and Strategic Initiatives, who has worked very closely with Dr. Corr and the province in the development and implementation of emerging technology initiatives, will step into the CEO position on an interim basis as of July 1st. She will be working with Dr. Corr to ensure a smooth transition. OCE’s board is undertaking the appropriate steps which will culminate in the appointment of a permanent president and CEO.

The Honourable Todd Smith, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade said “Our team thanks Dr. Tom Corr for his public service to the people of Ontario. His efforts over the last ten years at OCE have had an important impact on Ontario’s innovation ecosystem. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors and look forward to working closely with Interim CEO, Dr. Claudia Krywiak.”

Mr. Nobrega wished Dr. Corr well saying he is delighted to have him continue to serve on the OCE board.

“Tom’s voice will continue to be heard at OCE which is a testament to the high regard in which the entire organization holds him and the work he has done over the past ten years. Tom has done an excellent job in positioning the organization for continued success.”
