Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) has forged exciting new partnerships that will help applicants to its GlobalStart program enter Asian markets.
The GlobalStart Voucher program is intended to support youth-led start-ups to access international markets that are difficult to break into without significant connections and/or knowledge of the market, or due to language and cultural barriers.
As part of OCE’s partnership with InvestHK, all successful GlobalStart applicants who select Hong Kong as their desired global market will be connected with an InvestHK associate in Canada to help prepare for the trip. InvestHK will facilitate connections to relevant organizations, provide briefing and advice from InvestHK sector specialists in Hong Kong, and provide ongoing support and business networking opportunities in Hong Kong.
Additional support for applicants heading to Hong Kong will be made available through a new partnership with Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) or Cyberport, a digital technology cluster. Start-ups will gain access to Phase 1 of its International Acceleration Programme (IAP), which assigns a dedicated manager to provide assistance with forming an Asian market strategy, validating the business plan, and making crucial introductions to strategic partners and other supporting organizations.
Applicants interested in the Indian market can benefit from the new partnership between OCE and Carleton University Canada-India Centre of Excellence (CICE). Applicants will receive three-month incubation at any of the five CICE partners in India, and can participate in a one-week business and culture orientation workshop at Carleton University to prepare for the experience. CICE has partners in many leading tech clusters in India, including Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Goa, Delhi, and Chennai.
